Bartoli ist in Spanien im Training gestürzt :
| Zitat: |
Michele Bartoli left Italy some days ago for Spain, looking for a better weather, but he crashed today while training. In the next days he will return in Italy and he will do some tests. It shouldn't be a big problem, but he will return to training later and so he could lose the first important objective of the season, Milano-Sanremo

In belgischen teletekst steht folgendes :
BARTOLI BRAK MOGELIJK ZIJN BEKKEN
De Italiaan Michele Bartoli heeft zich
ernstig verwond.
Barcelona.
Mogelijk is het voorjaarsprogramma van
Bartoli, dat gebouwd was rond Milaan-
Sanremo, in de war gestuurd. Vorig jaar

Former world No. 1 cyclist Michele Bartoli could face a long time on the sidelines amid fears he broke his pelvis in a heavy fall while training in Spain his team reported Tuesday.
It would be a bitter blow for the 32-year-old Fassa Bortolo rider, who had roared back to form after a series of injuries to win the Amstel Gold Cup race and the Tour of Lombardy last year.
"I don't know much about what happened," team spokesperson Miriam Nordeman said Tuesday. "I know he hurt his pelvis and perhaps he has fractured it, but we'll have to wait and see how it is when he returns here."
Nordeman said the team should have a better understanding of Bartoli's injuries when he returns to Italy tomorrow and undergoes further x-rays.
However it appears unlikely Bartoli will be able to line-up for the Milan-San Remo classic in March, his first major target for 2003.
Bartoli had come to Spain to take advantage of warmer weather and early season training opportunities. The Pisa native joined Fassa Bortolo at the end of the 2001 season. He earned two World Cup wins in 2002 - the Amstel Gold Race and the Tour of Lombardy - and finished third overall in the 10-race series.

Eine echte WM its härter.

Bartoli writes on his website today - I have to update you about the news I've told you yesterday as for my new accident. You know, I didn't want to talk with anybody: I can't believe I must start again from the beginning... Everything happened in a very banal way, when I had just started training along the roads of Barcellona where I was looking for a good weather. Petacchi, Pieri and Catalan Flecha were with me; we were just started when after only 200 meters I crashed because of the moist ground. I realized at once it was a quite serious accident. According with the first check it could be a compound fracture of my right iliac, just like the last year in Germany. I feel a strong pain, I move with difficulty, but above all I am frustrated since this accident will be likely to condition the first part of my season. I don't know when I come back in Italy yet nor in which way but I would like to be at home by the end of the week to have a new and more precise medical examination. My masseur Luigino Moro is taking care of me and many friends have already send me their encouragements. I thank you very much, you are very kind but at the moment I haven't accepted it yet.
It would seem likely that Bartoli, will need about 3 weeks of complete immobility and 3 weeks of gradual recuperation. Certainly it is a bitter blow to "the warrior," and his early season schedule must now be in doubt.
